Your rights
The Act applies when you buy goods or services mainly for personal use, outside any trade, business or profession. Businesses must not mislead you, pressure you unfairly, charge hidden fees, trap you in a subscription, or use fake reviews (Article 2).
Contracts and goods
Contract terms must be written in plain language, and unfair terms do not bind you. Goods you buy must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose, accurately described and reasonably durable. Services must be carried out with reasonable care (Article 3).
Information and safety
Before you buy, a business must tell you who they are, the total price, any recurring charges, and how to cancel. Businesses must not knowingly supply unsafe products, and must promptly notify affected consumers and issue recalls where needed (Article 4).
If something goes wrong
You may be entitled to a repair, refund, cancellation or compensation, and generally have up to six years to bring a claim (Article 6). If you suspect a business has broken the law, use the Report a Business page to tell the Authority.
